Why is Christ's role as our high priest significant?

Answered in 2 sources

Christ, as our high priest, intercedes for us and ensures our access to God by swapping our guilt with His righteousness.

In the order of Melchizedek, Christ serves as our eternal High Priest, as detailed in Hebrews 7. Unlike the priests of the Old Testament, who eventually died, Christ's priesthood is unchangeable and everlasting. This is significant because He provides a better hope, allowing us to draw near to God. Through His continual intercession, we receive assurance of our salvation as He represents us before the Father. This highlights the beauty of our relationship with God—through Christ’s righteousness, we are seen as holy and acceptable, granting us direct access to Him.
