Why is Christ the cornerstone of the church?

Answered in 1 source

Christ is the cornerstone of the church because He is the foundation upon which all believers are built.

In Ephesians 2:19-20, it is stated that the church is built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Himself as the chief cornerstone. This means that every aspect of the church's existence relies on Christ's redemptive work and His authority. Just as a cornerstone is crucial for structural integrity, Christ being the cornerstone ensures that the church remains aligned and anchored in truth. As Henry Mahan emphasized in his sermon, without this foundation, which is Christ, there can be no true church, and all other constructs fail against the trials and tribulations that come.
