Why is church membership significant for Christians?

Membership in a local church is significant because it creates a community of believers who support and encourage one another in their faith journeys. The Bible teaches that while all members of a church may not be elect, the church is intended for the benefit of the elect, nurturing them in the truth of God's Word. Additionally, as 1 John 4:20 states, love for God is inseparable from love for one's brother.
