Why is confidence in the flesh dangerous for Christians?

Answered in 2 sources

Confidence in the flesh is dangerous because it undermines the foundation of grace that is necessary for salvation.

Paul warns against putting any confidence in the flesh in Philippians 3:4-6. Confidence in human efforts, morality, or religious observance can lead to spiritual deception, as it robs believers of the necessity of Christ's righteousness. Any reliance on self or one's accomplishments creates a false sense of security that can ultimately be poisonous to one's faith. True salvation rests solely on the work of Christ rather than our ability to meet the demands of the law. Thus, trusting in fleshly pursuits detracts from the grace and power of God that operates through faith in Jesus.
