Why is contrition important for Christians?

Answered in 2 sources

Contrition is vital because it leads to a deeper understanding of sin and reliance on Christ’s perfect sacrifice for salvation.

For Christians, true contrition compels us to confront the reality of sin, acknowledging that no human efforts can suffice to bridge the gap between us and God. As the sermon explains, 'What God requires, God must provide.' The recognition of our insignificance before God fosters a spirit of humility, allowing believers to fully appreciate Christ's sacrificial love and the grace that covers all sins. Knowing that our contrition pales in comparison to the perfect contrition of Christ helps us rest in His completed work rather than in our flawed efforts.
