Why is dependence on Christ important for Christians?

Answered in 6 sources

Dependence on Christ is vital for Christians as it ensures that their trust and identity are rooted in Him alone, not in themselves.

For Christians, having a steadfast dependence on Christ is paramount because it maintains a proper perspective of one's own identity. The tendency to rely on personal virtues or growth can lead to spiritual pride and self-reliance, which ultimately detracts from the grace of God in which they stand. As stated in 2 Corinthians 12:9, God's strength is made perfect in weakness. Recognizing this truth empowers believers to acknowledge their shortcomings while also leaning entirely on Christ, who is their righteousness and source of life. Hence, a life of dependence on Christ fosters genuine spiritual growth and assurance in God’s promises.
