Why is faith essential for assurance of salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Faith is essential because it serves as the evidence of our saving interest in Christ.

Faith is the only genuine evidence we have of our salvation in Christ; it is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1). It is by faith that we acknowledge God's promises and trust in the saving work of Jesus. Faith is God’s gift to His elect, empowering them to believe in the sufficiency of Christ's righteousness (Ephesians 2:8-9). This faith provides profound assurance, as it confirms our understanding that our salvation is rooted not in our own merits or experiences but solely in Christ's completed work. Therefore, it is only through faith that we can lay hold of the promises of God and gain comfort in our claim to eternal life.
