Why is faith essential for justification?

Answered in 1 source

Faith is essential for justification as it is the means through which we receive Christ's righteousness.

Faith plays a critical role in justification because it is through faith that we acknowledge our need for Christ and His work on the cross. Hebrews 11:6 states, 'Without faith, it is impossible to please God,' indicating that faith is the channel through which we receive God's grace and accept the gift of salvation. Furthermore, saving faith always looks outward to Christ as the foundation, resting on His promises and righteousness rather than our own. Thus, while faith is vital, it is not the basis of our justification but the instrument by which we access the righteousness of Christ (Philippians 3:9).
