Why is faith important for assurance?

Answered in 1 source

Faith is crucial for assurance because full assurance is derived from faith in Jesus Christ, not from our own works or feelings.

Faith serves as the foundation for assurance because it connects believers to the work of Jesus Christ. According to the teachings found in Hebrews 10:22, we draw near to God in full assurance of faith, which implies that faith is not merely a mental ascent but an active trust in Christ's finished work. Assurance, therefore, is not based on external evidence or moral achievements but solely on faith in who Christ is and what He has done. Without faith, assurance remains elusive since it is through faith that we are able to grasp the full implications of our identity in Christ. This reliance shifts our focus away from ourselves and onto Him, which is where true assurance is found.
