Why is faith in Christ difficult for sinners?

Answered in 1 source

Faith in Christ is difficult because of the natural depravity of the human heart and God's justice.

The difficulty in believing in Christ arises from the inherent depravity of our hearts. Jeremiah 17:9 tells us the heart is deceitful above all things, making it impossible for a sinner to recognize their need for a Savior without divine intervention. Furthermore, God's justice demands that sin be punished, which adds another layer of complexity. According to Romans 3:23, all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, thus establishing the necessity for a substitute to bear the punishment for our sins. Jesus Christ, as our substitute, fulfills this demand of justice, but only those whom God draws and grants new life will truly come to trust Him as Lord and Savior and overcome their natural resistance to Him.
