Why is faith in Jesus necessary for salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Faith in Jesus is necessary because it is the means by which we appropriate His righteousness to be justified before God.

Faith in Jesus Christ is the means through which we receive the righteousness that God requires. As John 6:29 states, 'this is the work of God, that you believe on him whom he has sent.' This belief is not about our merit or effort but rather about trusting in Jesus as the one who fulfills the law on our behalf. The righteousness that enables us to stand before God is not our own but comes from Christ. As Romans 3:22 expresses, 'even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe.' Thus, faith in Christ is essential for our justification and acceptance by God.
