Why is faith in the present important for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Faith in the present is crucial because it affirms reliance on Christ's finished work rather than past deeds or future plans.

Faith that is only anchored in past experiences or future aspirations can lead to complacency and spiritual stagnation. The message conveys that just like the Israelites had to gather manna each day, Christians must actively participate in their faith today. This concept of 'today' underscores the need for an active faith that rests on Christ alone now, avoiding the temptations to lean on what we have done in the past or what we plan to do in the future. The present moment is the only moment in which we can exercise faith. Therefore, today's faith ensures that we enter into God's rest and partake in the assurances of our salvation, as stated in Hebrews 4:3.
