Why is faith more important than good deeds for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Faith in Christ is essential for salvation because it acknowledges our inability to fulfill the law and embraces the righteousness of Christ.

For Christians, faith supersedes good deeds because it is through faith that we are united with Christ and receive His righteousness. Romans 3:21-22 states that God’s righteousness comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. Good deeds, while important as evidence of faith, do not contribute to our justification before God. Instead, they serve as a response to the grace already given to us through faith. True faith results in a transformation that manifests in good works, but it is imperative to understand that those works do not earn favor with God; rather, they are the fruit of a genuine faith rooted in Christ's finished work on the cross.
