Why is false religion dangerous?

Answered in 1 source

False religion leads individuals to believe they are secure in their standing before God, which ultimately results in spiritual bankruptcy.

The danger of false religion is that it can create a false sense of security. Many who practice false religion may think they are rich in spiritual wealth, but the truth is that without a foundation in Christ, this wealth is illusory. Revelation 18 warns about the fall of Babylon, a representation of false religion, which will ultimately come to nothing. Believers must be discerning about their spiritual teachings and practices, ensuring they align with the truth of God's Word, as the reality is that any reliance on personal merit or religious activity outside of Christ leads to condemnation rather than salvation.
