Why is fast not necessary for Christians today?

Answered in 1 source

Fasting is not necessary for Christians today because Christ is the fulfillment of all spiritual needs.

In the passage from Matthew 9, Jesus highlights that fasting, as traditionally understood in the Old Covenant, loses its purpose when the Bridegroom is present. The call to fasting among Christ's disciples is rendered obsolete as believers now have a living relationship with Christ, who fulfills all our spiritual hunger. Recent teachings demonstrate that any ceremonial practices intended to showcase piety, such as fasting, were often motivated by a desire for human recognition rather than genuine spiritual growth. Therefore, the emphasis should be placed on a heart relationship with Christ rather than outward rituals that carry no weight in the new life we have found in Him.
