Why is following Christ more important than church activities?

Answered in 1 source

Following Christ is paramount because true discipleship centers on establishing a relationship with Him, not merely adhering to church activities or traditions.

The emphasis of true discipleship is on a personal relationship with Christ rather than ritualistic adherence to church activities. Jesus made it clear in Mark 8:34-35 that following Him involves a personal commitment that transcends family ties, societal expectations, and church traditions. While communal worship and church activities can support our faith, they should not replace our direct pursuit of Christ Himself. A focus on following Christ means relinquishing any hindrance, such as misplaced priorities that could draw us away from cultivating a deeper relationship with Him. It’s about knowing Christ intimately and being willing to endure hardship for His sake, recognizing that real life is found in Him alone.
