Why is following the law necessary for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

The law reveals our need for grace by showing us our sinfulness and our inability to fulfill it on our own.

The purpose of the law, as articulated in Galatians 3:19, is to expose human transgression and lead us to Christ. The law functions like a mirror, reflecting our inability to meet God's righteous standards and thus illustrates why we need a Savior. Jesus, in the parable of the Good Samaritan, uses the law to draw attention to our failures and help us recognize our desperate need for mercy. The law, therefore, is not simply about behavior modification; it reveals the holiness of God and our shortcomings, prompting us to seek salvation through grace rather than through our own attempts at righteousness.
