Why is forgiveness important in the Christian community?

Forgiveness is a fundamental aspect of the Christian life, especially within the church. In Ephesians 4:32, Paul instructs us to be kind, tenderhearted, and forgiving, just as God forgave us for Christ's sake. This call to forgive is not merely a suggestion but a necessary expression of the grace we have received. Without forgiveness, bitterness can take root, leading to division and strife among believers. In understanding how much we have been forgiven, we are encouraged to extend that same grace to others, fostering an environment of unity and love. Furthermore, Jesus teaches that harboring unforgiveness can open the door for Satan to take advantage of our hearts (2 Corinthians 2:10-11).
