Why is forgiveness necessary in the Christian community?

Answered in 1 source

Forgiveness is necessary to promote healing and prevent division within the Christian community.

In the Christian community, forgiveness serves as a means of healing and restoration. Paul's instructions in 2 Corinthians remind believers that carrying an unforgiving spirit can lead to division and can give Satan an opportunity to act (2 Corinthians 2:11). The act of forgiving a brother or sister who repents encourages a culture of grace and love, essential for the community's spiritual health. When members of the church forgive each other as God has forgiven them, it strengthens their bonds and showcases the transforming power of the Gospel. Moreover, 'loving one another' goes hand in hand with forgiving one another, as established in Galatians 6:1-2, where Paul urges believers to restore those who have fallen into sin gently. The necessity of forgiveness underlines that community life is often marked by shortcomings; hence, believers must strive for reconciliation, aiding one another in their spiritual journeys.
