Why is God's mercy significant in Lot's story?

Answered in 1 source

God's mercy is crucial, as it saves Lot despite his failures and lingering in Sodom.

In the account of Lot, God's mercy stands out as it illustrates His love and patience. Even when Lot lingered and hesitated to leave Sodom, the Lord sent angels to physically lead him and his family to safety (Genesis 19:16). This act reveals that God's mercy extends beyond our failures and is the key to our deliverance. It is through mercy that believers, despite their shortcomings, are drawn out of sin and delivered from judgment. This reflects the broader Reformed understanding that it is God’s sovereign grace and mercy that enables us to escape the wrath to come and ultimately secures our salvation.
