Why is God's sovereignty important during suffering?

Answered in 1 source

God's sovereignty assures believers that their suffering has purpose and is under His control.

The sovereignty of God plays a crucial role in how believers understand and endure suffering. In John 11:4, Jesus tells the disciples that Lazarus' sickness is for the glory of God. This perspective reveals that even in our trials, God is orchestrating events according to His divine plan. The assurance that God is in control provides comfort in the midst of uncertainty, instilling hope that our suffering is not in vain but serves a higher purpose.

Furthermore, our afflictions often lead to spiritual growth and reliance on God. As seen in Psalm 119:71, 'It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.' By recognizing that God uses suffering to refine us and draw us closer to Him, we can find solace and strength in the promises of His Word. Understanding His sovereignty allows believers to cast their anxieties upon Him, knowing that He cares for them (1 Peter 5:7). This leads to a peace that surpasses all understanding amid life's storms.
