Why is grace essential for our understanding of salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Grace is vital because it reminds us that salvation is a gift from God, not earned by our efforts.

Grace is at the heart of the gospel, highlighting that salvation is entirely a work of God through the person of Jesus Christ. As Isaiah 4 illustrates, the elect are provided for, not based on their merit but because of God's gracious choice. The concept of grace versus works is crucial; we naturally tend to think we must contribute something to earn our salvation. However, grace teaches us that we can do nothing apart from Christ. Our standing before God is based solely on His grace and love for us, forever securing our position in Him. Thus, grace is essential because it frees us from the burden of trying to earn favor with God and allows us to rest in His finished work.
