Why is having the Spirit of Christ important for Christians?

The importance of possessing the Spirit of Christ cannot be overstated. According to Romans 8:9, the Spirit's presence in a person is the fundamental evidence of being a child of God. Without the Spirit, a person remains spiritually dead and is not able to please God. The Spirit empowers believers to live according to God's will, leads them into truth, and assures them of their salvation. It transforms their affections towards God and grants them the capacity to worship and obey Him, setting them apart from those who live according to the flesh.
