Why is humility essential in the Christian faith?

Answered in 1 source

Humility is essential in the Christian faith because it allows believers to recognize their dependence on God's grace.

Humility is crucial within the Christian faith because it acknowledges that we are wholly reliant on God's grace for salvation. The history of Israel acts as a profound warning; their pride in grace led them to reject Christ and produced only wild grapes. This pride distorts our perception of our need for forgiveness and relationship with God. In contrast, humility invites us to see our true condition—dead in sin—while recognizing Christ as the sole source of life. As we come to Christ in humility, acknowledging our unworthiness, we receive the life-giving grace that He freely offers. Thus, humility not only aligns us with God's justice but also positions us to fully appreciate the richness of His sovereign mercy.
