Why is humility important for Christians in coming to Christ?

Answered in 1 source

Humility is essential for Christians as it positions them to receive grace and be lifted up by God.

Humility is a central theme in the call to come to Christ, as demonstrated in Luke 14. Jesus teaches that those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. Recognizing one's own sinfulness and coming to God empty-handed is the prerequisite for receiving His grace. By taking the lowest place, believers acknowledge their need for Christ’s righteousness and mercy, which are freely given to the humble heart that comes seeking salvation.
