Why is humility important in a Christian's life?

Answered in 3 sources

Humility is vital as it reflects our dependence on God, our recognition of our sinfulness, and our need for His grace.

In Christian theology, humility is acknowledged as a cornerstone of genuine faith. Psalm 25 illustrates this by showing David's recognition of his own sinfulness and need for God's mercy, as he pleads, 'Remember not the sins of my youth' (Psalm 25:7). This humility keeps the believer aware of their dependence on Christ for salvation and sanctification. James 4:6 reminds us that God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. It is in this humility that believers can approach God with open hearts, ready to receive His wisdom and guidance, knowing that apart from Him, they can do nothing (John 15:5). Therefore, humility allows for an authentic relationship with God and encourages a spirit of submission to His will.
