Why is hunger for God's Word important for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Desiring God's Word is essential as it signifies spiritual life and growth in the believer.

The hunger for God's Word reflects the spiritual vitality of a believer; this desire is akin to the physical need for sustenance. Just as a newborn craves milk, the apostle Peter encourages believers to 'desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby' (1 Peter 2:2). This craving indicates that a person has been given spiritual life by the Holy Spirit—a sign that they are alive in Christ. Without this hunger and thirst for God's truth, one cannot expect to grow in grace and knowledge, essentially starving their soul while denying the nutrients essential for spiritual maturity. A genuine longing for the Word illustrates not only a recognition of its importance but also an acknowledgment of the believer's dependence on Christ as the source of life.
