Why is intercessory prayer important?

Answered in 1 source

Intercessory prayer is vital as it reflects Christ-like love, serves others, and invites God's blessing upon both the one praying and those for whom they pray.

Intercessory prayer holds a special place in the Christian life as it mirrors the heart of Christ, who intercedes for us. Jesus modeled this servanthood, focusing on the needs of others over His own (Philippians 2:4). By praying for others, believers fulfill the command of love, showing compassion and soliciting God's mercy on behalf of others. Additionally, the act of intercessory prayer can result in blessings being poured out on the one interceding, as God promises to be near to those who are merciful (Matthew 5:7). Thus, it positions believers not only as receivers of grace but also as conduits through which God's grace flows.
