Why is it dangerous for Christians to fall asleep spiritually?

Answered in 1 source

Falling asleep spiritually lulls believers into complacency, making them susceptible to temptation and distancing them from the gospel (1 Thessalonians 5:6).

The danger of spiritual slumber is likened to the story of Eutychus in Acts 20, who fell asleep during Paul's preaching and ultimately fell to his death. This act symbolizes how Christians can become complacent and neglect their spiritual vigilance, leading to a dangerous state of being where they are unable to discern the deceitfulness of sin and the world. Christ warns believers to stay alert and awake, as falling asleep interferes with their readiness for His return and weakens their commitment to His Word. As seen in Revelation 3:15-16, being lukewarm is met with condemnation, stressing the need for zealous dedication to Christ (Revelation 3:19).
