Why is it dangerous to desire wealth according to the Bible?

Answered in 1 source

Desiring wealth can lead to temptation, snares, and ultimately ruin, as it diverts focus from God.

The Bible warns that the desire to be rich can lead Christians into many temptations and snares, ultimately resulting in destruction and perdition. In 1 Timothy 6:9-10, Paul states that the love of money is the root of all evil. This insatiable love can lead believers to compromise their values and make choices that distance them from God. The rich man in the parable ended up lost not because of his wealth itself, but because of his greed. Instead, we are called to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, prioritizing spiritual wealth over material gain.
