Why is it detrimental to spend time on worldly distractions?

Answered in 1 source

Spending time on worldly distractions diverts our hearts from God and promotes vanity over spiritual growth.

When we allocate our time to worldly distractions, like newspapers or trivial novels, we will naturally find our thoughts and affections following those vain pursuits. This deviation from the divine can lead to a heart that is consumed by the earthly, making it difficult to reflect God's glory. Spurgeon illustrates that if our minds are not turned towards heavenly reflections, we shouldn't be surprised when we find ourselves entrenched in worldly matters. A life prayerfully devoted to Scripture and Godly meditations can counteract this tendency and redirect our focus skyward.
