Why is it essential for Christians to recognize Christ as the light?

Answered in 1 source

Recognizing Christ as the light is vital because He illuminates our understanding of salvation and reveals our need for redemption.

Christ is referred to as the light in John 1:4-9, where it states that in Him was life, and the life was the light of men. This recognition is essential for Christians because it signifies that without Christ, we remain in spiritual darkness, unable to comprehend the truth of our sinful state and need for salvation. The natural light given through creation is insufficient for spiritual enlightenment; we need Christ’s light to be rescued from our blindness. Furthermore, as Christians, understanding Christ as the light helps us walk in truth and righteousness, directing our paths according to His will as we seek guidance through His Word. Therefore, it is through acknowledging Christ as our light that we receive the understanding necessary for a life of faith.
