Why is it essential for sinners to recognize their need for mercy?

Answered in 1 source

Recognizing one's need for mercy is essential because it is the first step toward seeking salvation through Christ.

Acknowledging our need for mercy is crucial because it leads us to recognize the depth of our sin and the gravity of our condition before a holy God. The Israelites in the wilderness had to first admit their sin and impending death before they could look upon the brazen serpent for healing. Similarly, until individuals perceive their state of spiritual death due to sin, they will never truly seek the Savior. This recognition compels one to turn to Christ, who alone provides the remedy for the poison of sin, thereby granting grace and forgiveness. Only when we see ourselves as lost can we fully embrace the astonishing grace offered through Jesus.
