Why is it good for me to be afflicted?

Answered in 1 source

Being afflicted teaches me valuable spiritual lessons and draws me closer to Christ.

As stated in Psalm 119:71, 'It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I might learn thy statutes.' This teaching underscores the belief that God allows afflictions to refine His children and lead them to rely on Christ more fully. Through struggles, believers confront their weaknesses and the reality of their sin, leading them to appreciate God's grace and mercy. Affliction serves as a schoolhouse where believers learn essential spiritual truths that they perhaps would not recognize in times of ease. Ultimately, this process is good because it results in a deeper relationship with God and a greater trust in His sovereign plan.
