Why is it important for Christians not to mix works with faith?

Answered in 1 source

Mixing works with faith nullifies the grace of Christ and brings believers under the law (Galatians 5:3).

The apostle Paul makes a compelling case in Galatians 5, warning that any attempt to seek righteousness through the law or one's works makes Christ of no effect. In verse 3, he states, 'For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.' This highlights the reality that if we rely on our works, we must perfectly keep the law, which is impossible. True faith, on the other hand, looks solely to Christ for righteousness. Thus, mixing faith with works undermines the grace of God and ultimately leads to despair, for it is Christ alone who fully satisfies God's requirements.
