Why is it important for Christians to acknowledge their need for Christ?

In the story of Bartimaeus, his recognition of his blindness and his urgent cry for mercy reveal a fundamental truth about the Christian faith: we must recognize our spiritual condition before we can receive the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
