Why is it important for Christians to acknowledge their sinful state?

Acknowledging our sinful condition is vital for understanding our desperate need for divine grace. It is only in recognizing our helplessness that we begin to cry out for salvation, just as the example of Bartimaeus shows (Mark 10:47-48).
