Why is it important for Christians to avoid a self-righteous attitude?

Answered in 1 source

A self-righteous attitude blinds individuals to their true spiritual condition and alienates them from grace.

It is crucial for Christians to avoid self-righteousness because it creates a false sense of security and ultimately leads one away from the necessity of God’s grace. The Pharisees believed they were above reproach, saying, 'We see,' but Jesus indicated that their sin remained because they were unaware of their need for Him (John 9:41). This attitude can obstruct spiritual insight and prevent repentance. As Christians, we are called to acknowledge our total dependence on Christ for salvation, embracing humility and grace rather than pride in our perceived righteousness.
