Why is it important for Christians to avoid fretting?

Answered in 1 source

Christians are called to avoid fretting because it leads to anxiety and a lack of trust in God's plan.

Psalm 37 cautions against fretting over evildoers, illustrating that excessive worry can distort faith and lead to detrimental actions. Fretting is described as being overly disturbed or vexed, which can consume our focus and peace (Psalm 37:8). As believers, we are reminded that God has promised to uphold the righteous and provide for them, thus dissipating the need for anxiety over circumstances beyond our control. When we fret, we inadvertently place our trust in our understanding of situations rather than relying on God’s perfect wisdom and timing. Therefore, the biblical exhortation is to commit our ways to the Lord, resting in the assurance that He will handle all matters according to His righteousness.
