Why is it important for Christians to avoid having a master-sin?

Answered in 1 source

Master-sins can hinder one's relationship with God and lead to spiritual ruin, as evidenced by the rich ruler who couldn't part with his wealth.

The case of the rich young ruler illustrates how a master-sin—like the love of money—can obstruct the path to salvation. When Jesus asked him to sell all he had, the ruler's sorrow indicated that he valued his possessions more than eternal life (Luke 18:23). Christians must be vigilant about besetting sins, as failing to renounce them can result in spiritual death. True discipleship requires a willingness to forsake anything that stands between oneself and Christ.
