Why is it important for Christians to be involved in politics?

Answered in 1 source

Christians are called to be salt and light in the world, which includes advocating for righteousness in politics, as suggested in Matthew 5:13-16.

The involvement of Christians in politics is essential for several reasons. First, as believers, we are commanded to be 'salt and light' in the world (Matthew 5:13-16), which entails influencing culture and advocating for God's standards of righteousness and justice in all areas of life, including government. The historical understanding of the church’s role in society has been one of active engagement, rather than withdrawal. Our early church fathers and reformers believed that Christians should take an active role in governance, reminding us that morality and ethics cannot be divorced from politics. When Christians disengage, we risk allowing secular ideologies to dominate, leading to societal decay and an erosion of shared values. Therefore, actively participating in the political process allows Christians to pursue justice and defend the sanctity of life and marriage according to biblical principles.
