Why is it important for Christians to center on Christ?

Answered in 1 source

Christ must be central to Christianity, as He embodies the glory of God and the means of our salvation.

In all things, Christ is to be the center, as He is the revelation of God's glory. When a church or believer fully grasps this truth, it transforms their message, mission, and methods. Rather than focusing on human achievement or emotions, the glory of God in the saving work of Christ becomes the driving force behind everything we do. This understanding reshapes the church's purpose and how we engage with the world. We preach the gospel not to exalt human efforts, but to glorify God and His sovereign grace in saving His elect through Jesus Christ.
