Why is it important for Christians to depend solely on Christ?

Answered in 1 source

Christians must depend on Christ because He alone is our source of strength and salvation.

Dependence on Christ is essential for believers because it acknowledges our inability to save ourselves or navigate life's storms without His guidance. As demonstrated in Matthew 14, when Peter took his eyes off Jesus and focused on the storm, he began to sink (Matthew 14:30). This reflects our own struggles with faith and the necessity of remaining focused on Christ, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). Additionally, our salvation is rooted not in the strength of our faith but in the object of our faith—Christ Himself. His sufficiency enables us to confront trials knowing that He will uphold us (Philippians 4:13).
