Why is it important for Christians to examine their motives for following Christ?

Answered in 1 source

Christians should examine their motives to ensure they are seeking Him for who He is, not for personal gain.

The question of our motives in following Christ is crucial, as brought out in the sermon. Just as David questioned Ziba's sudden affection, we should introspectively ask ourselves why we follow Christ. Are we seeking Him for temporal blessings, or do we genuinely desire to be with Him and transformed by His grace? This self-examination is a safeguard against hypocrisy and spiritual deception. Paul encourages believers to regularly examine their faith to ensure it is authentic and rooted in a true relationship with Christ, who calls us to seek Him above all else.
