Why is it important for Christians to flee to Christ for refuge?

Answered in 1 source

Fleeing to Christ brings believers safety and life, illustrating our dependence on Him for salvation.

The urgency to flee to Christ is compared to Abiathar, who escaped certain death and destruction by seeking refuge in David. This illustrates our own predicament as sinners facing the wrath of God. The sermon asserts that when a person recognizes the sentence of death on their head due to their sin, they will seek Christ with urgency. Believers are encouraged to come to Christ not casually, but earnestly, fleeing to Him for safety. In Him, we find life—a stark contrast to the death awaiting outside of Him. This motif echoes throughout scripture, affirming that true salvation is only found in Christ, demonstrating our complete reliance on His work and grace.
