Why is it important for Christians to know their own sinfulness?

Answered in 1 source

Understanding one's own sinfulness is crucial for recognizing the depth of God's grace and mercy in salvation.

Recognizing the seriousness of our sin is foundational to appreciating God's grace. In Ezekiel 16, the metaphor of the polluted child cast out reflects the state of humanity—helpless, unworthy, and in rebellion against God. This awareness of our own sinfulness leads us to fully grasp what it means to be redeemed and loved by God. When we understand that we are deserving of His wrath yet receive His mercy, it magnifies the glory of His grace. As David recognized his condition in Psalms, this knowledge is meant to lead us toward true repentance and faith, showing how deeply God loves those He calls to Himself.
