Why is it important for Christians to not follow the lust of the flesh?

Answered in 1 source

Following the lust of the flesh distracts Christians from fulfilling God's will and can lead to spiritual destruction (1 John 2:16).

1 John 2:16 warns us that all that is in the world, including the lust of the flesh, is contrary to the Father. Such desires can easily pull us away from our spiritual commitments and lead to sin. The apostle reminds us that those who indulge in these lusts demonstrate that they have not grasped the love of the Father. For Christians, it is vital to resist these temptations and instead focus on fulfilling God's will, as this is what leads to eternal blessings. Our affections should not be on what pleases our flesh but on what glorifies God and builds true spiritual life.
