Why is it important for Christians to recognize their weaknesses?

Answered in 5 sources

Recognizing our weaknesses allows us to depend on God's grace instead of our own strength (2 Corinthians 12:7-9).

Acknowledging our weaknesses is a pivotal aspect of the Christian faith; as illustrated in 2 Corinthians 12:7-9, Paul speaks of receiving a 'thorn in the flesh' to keep him humble. Our natural inclination is to rely on ourselves, but this leads us away from the essential truth of our dependency on God. By recognizing our limitations, we invite God’s grace to work in us. Paul’s perspective that he would rather boast in his infirmities underscores that it is through our weaknesses God’s power is magnified. This dependency not only shapes our character but also draws us closer to the Lord, as we learn to find our sufficiency in Him.
