Why is it important for Christians to rely on the Spirit instead of the flesh?

Answered in 1 source

Relying on the Spirit is crucial as it leads to true life and peace, whereas the flesh results in spiritual death and condemnation.

Relying on the Spirit rather than the flesh is important for Christians because the mind set on the flesh is enmity against God and cannot please Him (Romans 8:7-8). Paul contrasts the outcomes of these two paths in Romans 8:6, stating that to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Trusting in one's flesh leads to a restless pursuit of righteousness through personal effort, which ultimately ends in failure and despair. In contrast, reliance on the Holy Spirit enables believers to experience the vibrant life that God offers, honoring Him through faith and obedience motivated by love.
