Why is it important for Christians to rely only on Christ's work?

The importance of relying on Christ's work stems from the freedom it grants believers. Galatians 5:1 clearly states that we have been set free from the bondage of the law. Trusting in our own works leads to legalism, which diminishes the grace of God and results in spiritual slavery. By trusting in Christ alone, we embrace the fullness of His grace, which enables us to live in a loving relationship with God and one another without the fear of condemnation. This reliance is what assures believers of their standing before God, as Christ’s righteousness becomes our own, guaranteeing our participation in the new covenant and our membership in the family of God.
